FAQs
What is the expected time commitment on a weekly basis for the Chanter Program?
The program requires meeting with the Cantors on a weekly basis for 2 hours over Zoom. This will be on Saturday mornings. The Cantors will listen to the progress from each student on the hymns being instructed, and provide feedback. These meetings are integral for preparation for the final in-person oral exam.
In addition, we estimate that the program requires (on average) 4-10 hours per week of additional study. It will vary week to week based on the hymns being taught, whether or not the student knows that hymn, and on the ability and experience of the student.
What are the age requirements?
- Chanter Program: 18 years and up
- Audit Programs: 15 years and up
- Convention: 16 years old and up can attend individually
- Hymnologist Program: 21 years and up
Can I bring my family to the Convention?
Families are welcome to register together for the convention. A subsidized price is given for spouses, older children (up to 18) and younger children. Anyone over 18 years old should register separately.
Are the programs open to females? Or only males?
The Convention, Chanter Program, and Audit Program are open to both males and females. The Hymnologist Program is limited to males only.
What times are the live Zoom calls with the Cantors?
Students of the Chanter Program are expected to attend live the weekly Zoom calls with the Cantors. The Zoom calls will be on Saturday mornings on an AB Alternating Schedule.
- Saturday A: 8-10 AM EST (with the Cantors based in Egypt)
- Saturday B: 12-2 PM EST (with the Cantors based in America)
For example, if a given week is Saturday A, the following week will be Saturday B, followed by another Saturday A, etc.
Where is the Institute located?
Asaph Hymns Institute is a primarily online institute. The only on-site component is the annual convention which is used for administering oral exams, and for fellowship with the Cantors.
In 2024, the convention will be held at St Mary and St Demiana Convent in Dawsonville, GA.
I had previously applied to Asaph Hymns Institute before 2024. Do I need to re-apply?
With the relaunch of the program, and a brand new application process and system, all legacy applicants need to re-apply.
